Apart from hotels and resorts there are ayurvedic massage parlours, dental spas, wifi enabled restaurants, cliff top heritage cottages etc.

To the right is the small tiled walkway that extends through the clifftop which you may use to access the hotels and resorts here, and also for enjoying the beach from the cliffs. The path extends seemless and we stopped walking after sometime. One side of this walkway is packed with so many palm thatched restaurants, hotels and many sea side shops. Paintings shops, garments and sculpture shops are seen in between the palm thatched restaurants. A Spices supermarket of Kerala is also seen there, but was closed by the time we were there. All the amenities a foreign tourist may need from currency exchanges, tour packages in Kerala to travel ticket bookings can be done from the shops around here in Varkala.

You can get reasonably rated accomodation and food from the hotels and resorts in this place if you can just search a bit here for the rates. Rooms facing beach side starts from INR 500 per night in some of the beach hotels here. Rates may vary depending on the hotels and type of rooms you choose. Its said that this is the place where you can get a good deal to have an accommodation during a beach holidays in Varkala / Kerala / India.

Restaurant photo to the bottom, is of a clifftop beach restaurant found in Varkala helipad area. The clifftop hotel named Cafe Italino seemed specialized in Italian dishes, and what attracts more is the blending of Kerala-western architecture in the furnishings and looks of the hotel.

Attractive designs and colorful paintings are a peculiarity of the shops and hotels here, a way to attract tourists in. Another feature is the open air serving arrangements which may help the traveler to enjoy the sea and beach waves in front while having his food.

Clafoyli, Heritage cottages at the top of varkala beach cliffs. What we found out here was a collection of individual cottages in a well landscaped place with so many coconut trees. All the cottages palm thatched. AC and non AC cottages are available here.

The heritage cottages have amenities like, ayurvedic clinics, dental spa, Restaurants, beauty studios, supermarkets, Internet facilities etc. Have a travel desk where you can book railway and air tickets. tour packages in kerala, houseboat journeys in backwaters of Kerala etc can be arranged from here. A yoga centre is also there.

Another beach resort named hilltop Ayurvedic Beach resort. Every restaurants and resorts here has that common feature. An outdoor food serving facility. Guarded under the shades of those coconut trees and continuously cooled by the sea breeze, it will be a good experience to stay in beach resorts here in Varkala.

Another beach hotel with a balcony facing into the sea. The hotel is found to be palm thatched with chairs made from canes. It also had a cluster of tables arranged outdoor, but haven't seen none using them for it's noontime.

Have to appreciate the fact that all the constructions in most of the hotels like this are done with eco friendly materials in a much artistic and attractive way.

A place named Kerala Coffee House from the top of Varkala beach cliffs. The place seemed interesting with many bamboo built palm thatched watchtower huts and balconies. Many beach umbrella shades are given for the tables arranged outside. Places like this will turnout to be nice to spend time in beach side evenings. Many thatched cottages with balconies are seen in this place.

The beach restaurant of Varkala named ABBA, a restaurant cum German Bakery. Outdoor serving is seen here too. The dishes they serve here are of Indian, Italian, Israeli, Chinease and Continental foods, as seen by the menu board. Most of the beach restaurants and resorts serve variety of dishes including the Kerala ones.

Arabian Sea, Varkala, Kerala, India

This is the view of the sea and beach you may get from any restaurants and sea side rooms beach resorts here. Their was display boards saying sea side rooms for Rupees 500 only. It was off season here now in Varkala and in tourist season the rates may slightly increase. 

Resorts of Taj etc are also there but is in some other places than these ones near the Helipad.The photos of the seaside restaurants are snapped during just a casual walk through the cliffs, intending to capture the sea and beaches down the cliffs. Clifftop cottages and huts along with multistoreyed beach resorts are also there beside the Papanasham beach of Varkala. Several beach side night partying places are also there.

You can get deals on Elephant rides, backwater tour trips through the backwaters of Kollam near to varkala etc from the tourist information centres here. Backwater tours for full day costs around  Rs600 and Elephant rides around Rs800.Currently varkla is becoming an alternative to the much crowded beach of Kovalam. Kovalam beach is just around 45Kms from here, and opting for varkala will give you a much wider and less crowded beach space with adequate beach resorts, restaurants, beach side shopping facilities and caters most of the needs that a foreigner or local traveler may experience.
