NH208-Near Thenmala Lookout |
NH-208, the road from Kollam through Punalur,Thenmala,Aryankavu, Palaruvi, Kuttalam, Chengotta etc and which ends in Thirumangalom in Tamilnadu. Before a few months back the condition of this road from Punalaur towards chengottai was like we can hardly say there is a road. It was more similar to offroad and something like dry river courses with huge dips and muddy swarms.
You would have suffered if you happened to pass through in a vehicle much lesser than a bus or atleast a SUV. Irony is it is one of the most important link between Tamilnadu and Kerala through which most of the goods transportation is done. Anyway things have changed.

Now the road is renovated with rubberized tarring and its one of the finest roads around here to drive through. The scenic beauty of the Kallada river banks and the dense tropical vegetation of the western ghats are promising to give you an enchanting drive. Just watch for narrow and sharp curves.
Snap from the road side, a distant view of the green vegetation of the western ghats. Can see the small water regulator cum bridge built across the river Kallada. So much tourist activities are in the eco tourism spots in and around Thenmala. A single day is not enough to explore the tourism activities to the fullest. Camping in these forests with the help of forest guards can be arranged and so many attractive spots are inside the forests.
Just a rocky mountain slope seen aside the road. Tear like springs were leaking from the mountain top and making its face wet. Green grass were found sprinkled over with a dense cover of vegetation on the top. It was a lot better scene for the eyes eventhough my cellphone haven't turned much successful in capturing it with the true vibrant greenery there. The colours were contrasting between green grass and the dark wet mountain rocks.
Standing on a milestone and capturing the vegetation around. You can see an almost dried rocky river path. Dam ahead the river is closed for some maintainance purposes.
From here the main attractions in this route begins like the lookout point and spillway bridge, Thenmala dam reservoir, the 13 arch railway bridge built by British and the mighty waterfalls of Palaruvi which is more than 300 feet heigh and a major tourist attraction in this area.
So we are moving to those tourist attractions in the coming posts. Onam Festive wishes for all Keralites from pixelshots the photoblog.
