Kudamaloor St Mary's church, the church in the name of Mother Mary the holy mother of Jesus..The church having a tradition of more than 800 years is one of the oldest pilgrimage centres for Christians in kerala and those coming to kerala..The importance of Kudamaloor church increased when Sister Alphonsa who had this church as her home parish, got declared as a saint by the pope..Moreover the church is known for special blessings happened for childless couples, and people comes here with offerings and prayers for the particular..
The church is built by King of chembakasherry for the blessings he got by praying to Mother Mary and is one of the most ancient churches now in India Kerala..Their are stone carved scripts placed infront of the church preserved still.Its one of the oldest Syrian Catholic churches in Kerala now..
The Altar and decorative paintings around..Some of the church paintings here are so ancient and is done using paints from plant extracts.. Their are two small altars in the sides of this main one.All the paintings and design of the altar done in western style...Sorry about the clarity of picture, for am using a mobile phone camera to shoot friends.. The churches..Now their are two churches their in Kudamaloor.One the old church built some 800 years before and other one is the new one, may be just the sake of accommodating the huge crowd coming here in times of special prayers.this church was built by 1970s, and have a similar altar and interiors as the old church..
The Baptism Basket used for baptism of St Alphonsamma, which is preserved inside the old Kudamaloor st Mary's church along with some holy relics in the altar.The place turning out to be a prominent christian pilgrim centre now, but people of all cast and religion comes here to pray Mother Mary..The place is important in the pilgrim map of christians for the home of St Alphonsa is nearby the church, which is a museum now..
The church is situated in Kottayam District of Kerala, India. Just reach the Kottayam town and Kudamaloor is not more than 10 Kms from Kottayam..And if you are a tourist you can visit hill stations like Vagamon which is about 37 kilometres from here..
