Arippara waterfalls in Iruvanjipuzha/ RIver, Calicut, Kerala, Wild milky river current splashing through river-bed rocks

Arippara waterfalls and river course. Not one of the most popular Waterfalls in Kerala, but absolutely one of the most beautiful river picnic spot. The waterfalls is in one of the tributaries of Iruvanji river commonly known as Iruvanjipuzha. The river course is much rocky and steep which makes so many water cascades throughout the river path. Similar rocky terrain is seen in most of the rivers flowing down from the Western Ghats through Kerala into the Arabian sea or the backwaters.

Reaching the Waterfalls of Arippara
Arippara waterfalls and the river tourism spots are located in the Tiruvambady panchayat of Calicut district, Kerala. The waterfalls is situated  at a distance of about 50 to 55 Kms from calicut city of Kerala. About 15 Kms from Thiruvambady panchayat. The waterfalls is located in Anakkampoyil route. You can get buses heading to to Anakkampoyil from the KSRTC bus station of Calicut and alight near Arippara waterfalls. The journey is of about 2hours and costa around 20 INR/- . May need a little walking towards the river course and waterfalls. Their are nearby points in the river where this river makes much bigger cascades and you may visit there too.

The places are a little remote and the river flows through forests and makes so many water cascades on its course. The water is least polluted and mountain fresh. The splashing river water rushing through the rocks makes the atmosphere cool and fresh makes us refreshed. The waterfalls and surrounding place will be much loved by tourists who like trekking and a little adventure. But always be cautious for the place can be much dangerous, if you are acting careless in those rocks and streams. All the rocks are so polished by prolonged action of the river and can be so slippery if a little wet.

The photos of the wild river stream given here are the portion of the river after the small falls. The river forms a dwarf cascade in this place and leads to the formation of a small pool of fresh river water ideal for water sports and bathing. These photos from Arippara are taken during the months of January. Monsoon seasons are not ideal to visit the place for the river will be flowing angry and mad and won't like anyone going near her. Most of the accidents happens due to stepping over slippery wet rocks. Careless bathing in some of the waterfalls in this river course had already taken lives and hope people coming here do take a little more responsibly to leave the place alive.

Candle flame photography, Cellphone camera closeup snaps of candle flames, Some amateur flame shots & photographic thoughts

Photographing Candle flames with cellphone mini digital cameras. Just a few snaps i got from the camera eyes of a SE W810i cellphone. It's a 2 megapixel camera integrated into the phone. The photos of the  Candle flames are snapped with all the lights off inside the room. Keeping the candles in well lit environment during photographing them can make the flame photograph lifeless.

All the candle flames captured here are either taken in closeups or macro modes of the small 2mp digital camera. The windows aside were kept closed to keep the flames steady for the camera lenses. Eventhough small breeze made them sway a little in some of the photos. Personally i felt the swaying flames little more interesting than the steady sharp candle glows.

Obviously a photographer will always need some life in his snaps. For a candle flame it will be a failure if we ended up unable to capture the feeling of warmth, felt through those amazing colors formed around the glow. The photos were not taken keeping any of photography rocket science and theories in mind, but just following the instincts.

Just tried to focus the camera lens right into the flame and waited to give the click when the flame settles down from the swaying done by the sneaking wind. The task in photographing flames is succeeding to get the warm divine colors naturally as it is for our eyes. Sometimes the auto white-balance of the camera may adjust itself and make the flames far away from the real beauty they have.

Old Indian car dumped in scratch yard, Fiat 1100 car of model 1950s, Cochin, Kerala, Black & White cellphone photography

Old Indian car in the scratch yard. guessing the car to be a Fiat made in the late 1950s. The overall body looks of the sedan shows some similarities to the old Fiat Elegant that was introduced into the Indian automobile market in the year of 1957. By now as years passed, its the amazing new era of cars and SUVs with hybrid engines, automatic transmissions, cruise controlls, multi fuel cars and trucks which runs on pure ethanol, gasoline or LPG etc or even electric cars and this very old guy resting in the scratch yard waiting its end.

Infact if we consider immobility is the criteria of death, then this fiat is already dead. We didn't knew if he got his engine under his hood, even though not functioning. Rusted body, broken blinkers, missing bumpers and what the Fiat got intact was a front windshield and the tires. Ofcourse the car have got a strong steel body which is missing in most of today's vehicles.

Fishermen throwing fish nets, sea shore fishing snaps from kerala beaches, FORT COCHIN beach

Fishing from the waves, some afternoon snaps from the beach of fort Cochin, Kerala. Shallow water fishing like this are a common scene in the beaches of kerala, eventhough heavy catches are not expected. Throwing of these fishing nets needs some skill to trap the fish properly.

The fishing net is thrown in a special way to spread the net during the flight and land evenly on the water. These nets are used for shore fishing as well as from fishing boats. Its observed that to catch the fish efficiently the depth of the water shouldn't be more than the radius of the fish net thrown.

These type of nets are also used popularly in the inland water bodies like lakes, rivers and in dam reservoirs where their are no underwater obstructions like dangling branches or reefs. The nets are ideal only to water bodies with a clean under water bed. Otherwise the nets will be trapped onto obstructions and gets damaged while getting pulled up. An ideal beach-fishing method.
