tree houses, tree house in thenmala deer park, kerala eco tourism spots, kerala tree housesTree house photos from the deer rehabilitation centre of Thenmala / Kollam / Kerala. The tree house is built as a part of eco tourism projects of Thenmala, Kerala. Near to the canopy of the forest trees the tree house stands tall like a watch tower for the vegetation and wildlife around. This tree house is added as one of the many eco tourism attractions in and around Thenmala forests, ie the Shenthuruny wildlife Sanctuary forests of Western Ghats

From olden times man used to make tree houses in forests and in trees near to farm lands, to cater as a safe dwelling from wildlife in the forests and also to guard farm lands and all. These days many of the Nature Tourism spots of Kerala has tree houses mainly for tourists. If the tree house here in Thenmala is just for the sake of climbing up and watching around, their are many tree houses as part of tourist resorts in and around Kerala, mainly in the Wayanadu district, which are equipped with all the amenities a modern tourist will need in his room to make his holiday stays here in Kerala memorable. Most of them are exactly like a well furnished resort room, with balconies. Differentiating them from ordinary resort rooms, they will be made entirely of wood and bamboos and ofcourse will be placed over a tree, thereby people can call them tree house resorts.

The front view of tree house in Thenmala deer park from below. The tree House is built on the way back from the park after visiting the deers and having some fun in the childrens park, if you a child. Grown up or child i don't think you will miss the chance to climb over this forest Tree House

Eventhough its named a Tree House, to be honest it can be defined like an elevated wooden, thatched hut between the forest trees. The wooden house is provided supports from the trees standing aside and is mainly supported by wooden and bamboo poles fixed in the ground.

Photo to the right is view from inside the Tree House of  Thenmala Deer park. The materials used for making this tree house are absolutely from the nature around and is their fore ofcourse an addon to eco tourism project here. Big cane sticks are bended and fixed like window arches on the tree house balcony sides. Bamboo poles and small stripes of bamboo are used for making the parapet of the balcony. Ropes are used to tie the bamboos and canes together tight along with nails. A small bamboo and wooden made bench awaits you to have a sit on and enjoy the nature around or have some small talk sitting a little while.

The Tree house is thatched with palm leaves and the floor is also made of some palm leaves like material. The tree hut is just to cater your need as a watch tower there in the middle of the forest and deer park, and not at all for dancing or jumping over there, else you will be coming down accompanied by the whole tree house.

You can hear your steps making sound on the hut floor up there and won't give you much confidence for any adventures. Capacity of the tree house is 5 people at a time.

You have to climb the wooden stairs to reach the top of the tree hut and have to watch your steps while climbing the wooden stairs if you want yourself in previous shape. Being your group accompanied by children give attention to them while climbing up as the stairs are made of wooden planks with open gap between adjacent ones.

The tree house is in a height of about 50 foot. What you can see inside there is a small bench for sitting and the area inside the tree hut is seperated, something like a room with a small window to the stair side. Having a binocular with you will surely be nice if you wanna have a close look into the forest and wild life around. The tree house is open to three sides and closed on one side. What you can do over there is to snap some photos each other giving a feeling that you are standing within the dense canopy of some tropical forest.

Usually the actual tree houses you may find in ther parts of Kerala related to tourist resorts and all may not be like this elevated ground structure. Many of the tree houses are built within branches of huge forest trees with a rope ladder to climb up. Tree houses are meant for sustainable eco friendly living within forests. Houses on trees are usually build for living, recreation or as temporary stays. In tropical forests the low lit ground due to dense canopy of trees will be inappropriate for human life and tree houses are the solution for humans to stay there without destroying the forest. Living in an elevated place protects the inhabitants and their possessions safe from scavenging wildlife below the forest.

You being a nature lover and like to spend some time near to the forest Canopy, a tree house is waiting here for you in Thenmala / Kollam / Kerala with many more attractions and activities which are part of the Eco Tourism project here. If you are coming here from Kollam side you may have already witnessed the Kallada  weir dam at Ottakkal and from here you may be moving onto the main dam of Thenmala, Parappar dam, where the Eco tourism office is functioning and from there you can get tickets and routes to other Eco Tourist attractions of Thenmala / Kerala / India. Pixelshots, the Kerala Travel photo blog will be back with the photos of a few of the eco tourism spots in here. Cu soon back here.
